Barra beach - not a beach

This is really sad compared to what used to be a very pretty and user friendly beach. I think the dredge is still there so maybe they'll cover it with sand once again.

Even though it looks like they are building a wall around Barra, this is just sand dredged out of the lagoon behind and eventually will be spread down the beach where needed. Probably to be washed away next summer.

They've moved over to Mazatlan but only have food 2 days a week

They are dredging again to bring more sand over to the ocean side

Break water or a beach

Well, all the sand is gone but at least the buildings aren't falling into the ocean. Storm after storm this year has been hard on the rebuilt beach. Don't know if they will bring in more sand for the tourist season.That's a lot of work only to have it wash away every year.

Hurricane Marie didn't come very close but it did reach category 5 which produced some of the biggest surf we've seen in quite awhile. The rock bulkhead was only put in from the buildings so out by the malecon it's only sand. We'll just wait and see if the break water (man made reef) will trap more sand sand or will they have to pump more from the lagoon. Summer storm season is long from over.

Longshore Drift

Is Longshore Drift the reason Barra has so little sand and why Melaque has so much?   Melaque's beach is currently wider than I've ever seen it.

This project is in two segments that are embedded 3.5 meters deep into the seabed, and rise to the level of low water so when low-tide arrives they will be seen. The first section would be one hundred meters long and 50 meters from the pier. The second, 300 meters from the jetty and a length of 60 meters. The separation between the two is 60 meters. They would both be 70 meters from the beach. The breakwaters would be of geobags which are made of geotextile filled with sand.
