No this is not a Tuk Tuk in India. Something new in Barra de Navidad. Pretty cool. Wonder if it's part of the taxi fleet

Earthquake anniversary
Temblor damage in Barra
October 9th is the anniversary of the 1995 big earthquake. I don't know what that building was but it's gone. The big Hotel Tropical next door was damaged also. Doesn't compare to Casa Grande Hotel (Hotel Melaque) damage but happened the same day.

Barra gets a new road
Didn't ever think I'd see a real paving job on the road to Barra but here it is. Usually it's just filling potholes

Surf in Barra yesterday
We got wet on this one
Towards Melaque
Lorena's foto in front of the church
We wer over in Barra using the ATM machine and decided to check out the beach. Sea level was very high and waves were some of the largest I've seen. The first foto got us wet and Nahima (5 years old) went running. Lorena took the last foto in front the church.

Sisters need school supplies
My neighbors
Nahima and Yare school fund
I'm going to help but need help helping. Both need backpacks (mochilas) and the older needs lots of notebooks. Nahima just graduated from Kinder so needs a first grade uniform and shoes. Yare needs another uniform after two years. Both Yare and Nahima are doing well in school

Day in Barra
The girls wanted to go over to Barra, see the new Malecon and swim in the lagoon. I was still feeling dizzy (mareado) so I just sat on the beach. Forgot to charge my camera so only got these two fotos. The next day Lorena showed me some bites she got in the water. Never heard of that before and they were bites, not stings. The ocean side was way too rough so we stayed away.

Cancha de Futbol
Barra's new soccer field
Barra gets a new soccer field very similar to the one in Melaque. Eventually will have Astroturf and probably some bleachers for fans. Not quite sure why because they had a couple nice grass fields.

Barra de Navisad new Malecon
The walk
The pier
Rumor has it that they are finishing the work. Guess we'll see how "the wall" holds up in storms rather than sand and rocks. I didn't see how deep the foundation is or if it could be undermined.

Barra Malecon
Looks like they are redoing the whole thing ..... and a wall instead of a sand dune. Gotta get over and check it out.

Barra Beach from Bananas
For those of you up North in the cold. I'm always amazed the color of the ocean in Barra. Only occasionally do you see this in Melaque.

Fixing the Malecon but not the beach
A rather large section of the Malecon washed away during Hurricane Patricia. That section was just over that small wall and it took a lot of the bricks out in the pedestrian area. It's been extended at least 5 meters beyond where it was before.
The beach remains a mess but at least the buildings are protected with the rocks. The blue water in Barra always amazes me compared to Melaque.

Rey Momo and Reina Extranjera
Back Stage Bar - Barra de Navidad
Get ready for a crazy time. The Gringo King and Queen is just a small part of Carnaval because the whole community participates in the parade and parties or they turn out to watch. I also have no idea how the King and Queen get elected.

El Horno Frances
Without Glen sitting in front
Amid a conversation on Tomzap about a new bakery in Melaque who makes mostly sweets and no French bread the owner of El Horno Frances in Barra reminded us that they have it. I bought a baguette there some time ago but never have seen a fat loaf of French bread. I'll check closer next time.
They are located at 25 Lopez de Legazpi which is next to the entrance to the Alondra Hotel pool.
